With start in 1985 different characterisation options where evaluated
to compare a synthetic shuttle with a feather badminton shuttlecock.
The goal at that time was to manufacture a shuttle from man made
material and get the characteristics of a feather shuttlecock.
Representatives from the IBF (International Badminton Federation)
took into consideration and evaluated if these methods could be
used to compare different brands of feather shuttlecocks. The
goal was and still is to improve quality and streamline characteristics
for shuttles used at major events. At the World Championships
in Jakarta 1989 the first tests and results where presented at
a Shuttle Seminar.
